UL Lafayette Opera Theatre: Comedy Tonight
The UL Lafayette Opera Theatre under the direction of Shawn Roy presented their fall production, called Comedy Tonight and featured scenes from Italian comic operas. The scenes were taken from operatic classics such as The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart, The Barber of Seville by Rossini and Don Pasquale by Donizetti.
Also in the program was a rare performance of La Serva Padrona, the one act opera by Pergolesi, which some consider to be the first Italian comic opera written. The entire evening was performed in English by UL Lafayette voice students.
Performances were Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3 at 7:30PM and Sunday, November 4 at 3PM. The opera took place in Burke-Hawthorne Theatre on Hebrard Boulevard on the UL Lafayette campus.
