Architecture - Currently the architecture offers three degree programs the pre-professional Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies, the professional Bachelor of Architecture and the professional Master of Architecture degrees. All entering freshman currently enter begin in the four-year pre-professional Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies curriculum. This pre-professional degree prepares students to enter careers fields related to architecture. The pre-professional degree also partially fulfill the requirements to enter the professional Master of Architecture graduate degree program, which meets the requirements for traditional practice and professional architecture licensure. Application to the graduate program is through the Graduate School. The professional Master of Architecture degree prepares student for professional architecture careers as licensed architects. The National Architectural Accrediting Board is the sole agency authorized to accredit US professional degree programs in architecture. In the United States, state registration boards require a degree from an accredited professional degree program as a prerequisite for licensure. The NAAB recognizes two types of degrees: the Bachelor of Architecture and the Master of Architecture. Master degree programs may consist of a pre-professional undergraduate degree and a professional graduate degree, which, when earned sequentially, comprise an accredited professional education. However, the pre-professional degree is not, by itself, recognized as an accredited degree. Currently both the Bachelor of Architecture and the Master of Architecture are fully accredited by the NAAB. Industrial Design - This four-year professional program offers a curriculum designed to prepare students for successful practice in the field of industrial design (product design). Industrial design, as defined by the Industrial Design Society of America, is "the professional service of creating and developing concepts that optimize the function, value and appearance of products and systems for the mutual benefit of user and manufacturer". The program focuses on global product design and emphasizes sustainable-cycle design. This is the only degree-granting program in industrial design in Louisiana. Students receive a Bachelor of Industrial Design upon graduation. Interior Design - This four-year professional curriculum leads to the Bachelor of Interior Design degree. The Interior Design Program is accredited by the Foundation for Interior Design Education Research. The curriculum provides an interface with architecture through basic design, graphic communication, and technical courses to ensure that its graduates will be strong, contributing members of the design and construction team. |
