DR. ROBERT F. SCHMALZ

Dr. Robert F. Schmalz is the Coordinator of Graduate Studies in Music
at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where he also has held the
Ruth S. Girard Endowed Research Professorship for the past five years.
Dr. Schmalz has served as President of several professional societies,
including the Southern Chapters of both the College Music Society and
the American Musicological Society, as well as the South-Central Renaissance
Conference. He has published nearly fifty articles in several respected
journals, including the CMS Symposium; American Music; Explorations in
Renaissance Culture; Pennsylvania History; and The Chronicle of Higher
Education.
He serves as well on the research committee of the newly formed American
Symphony Orchestra Institute. Schmalz's chapter on Victor Herbert will
be included in a volume on notable American conductors to be published
soon by the Greenwood Press.
