CASTING and TECHNICAL
ASSIGNMENTS
Departmental productions are open to majors, non-majors and community
members. Performing Arts Majors must present a ninety second monologue
(and sixteen bars of a song if auditioning for a musical). This part of
the audition process is closed to other auditionees. Performing Arts majors
must present a typed actors resume at the time of the audition (an example
is provided on the Burke Theatre call-board prior to each audition). Call-backs
may consist of cold readings, improvisational exercises, singing and movement
or dance sequences. The cast list will be posted on the Burke Theatre
call-board the day after the call-backs. Stage Management and technical
positions are assigned on the basis of a submission of a "letter
of intent" by the student and an interview with the technical director
and in consultation with the director.
REHEARSAL SCHEDULES
Directors are expected to provide auditionees with a general rehearsal
schedule at the time of the audition and a detailed rehearsal schedule
to all cast members no later than the first scheduled rehearsal. Traditionally,
non-musical Mainstage productions are rehearsed for approximately five
and half weeks Monday-Friday evenings, with three hours of rehearsal scheduled
each evening. Musicals (depending on their demand) may rehearse seven-eight
weeks. Periodic weekend rehearsal may be scheduled as needed.
