given by the department. Individual awards can range from $450 to $2000.
Dance Audition
Guidelines
Dance audition guidelines vary according to the specific requirements
of the scholarship. Specific application forms are available from the
department upon request. Further details and information are available
by calling the department office at (337) 482-6357.
Theatre Audition
Guidelines
All theatre auditions carry the same requirements.
- You must perform
two monologues (memorized) contrasting in mood (for example, comedy/drama).
If you wish to sing, you should in addition sing 16 bars from a Broadway
musical (accompaniment will not be provided).
- We urge you to
choose pieces that you feel strongly about, and show you at your best.
Read the entire play (questions are sometimes asked about the play as
a whole). Monologues should be no longer than two minutes each.
- We prefer that
you stay away from dialects, and pieces out of your age range. "Cold
Readings" will not be permitted.
- Wear comfortable
clothing. Costumes and props are not permitted (hand props are okay).
- Videotapes will
not be accepted (in place of auditioning).
- Bring a current
photo and resume that you can leave (detailing any theatre experience,
references, academics and employment).
- Bring at least
one letter of recommendation, your ACT or SAT score, class ranking and
your high school or transfer student transcripts, unless those materials
are already on file in the PFAR department.
- Write a paragraph
or two about yourself and why you want to concentrate in theatre or
dance (typed).
Applicants are permitted
to audition more than once.
Assistantships
A limited number of department assistantships or stipends are awarded
for students with an interest and/or expertise in Technical Theatre, Arts
Management, or Costumes. PFAR Assistantships and stipends are awarded
based on the following criteria: work ethic, responsibility, professionalism
and GPA, and are dependent on the departmental budget. Additionally, workstudy,
UL Lafayette scholarships and other financial aid opportunities may be
available from UL
Lafayette Office of Student Financial Aid.
