Top Stories

During March Professor of Printmaking Brian Kelly along with Part-Time Instructor James Tancill, departmental printmaking students, members of the department’s student group PRESS, and staff members fro the Children’s Museum of Acadiana organized a steamrolling printmaking event at the Children’s Museum of Acadiana during Lafayette’s March Annual Art Walk.

During the event Professor Kelly and printmaking students utilized a steamroller as a printing press to print student woodcut blocks to produce 4’x8’ large scale woodcut prints.

Along with the production of the woodcut prints the students also helped in the organization of printmaking opportunities for the community during the printmaking event. At the end of the event PRESS donated some of the produced woodcuts to the Children Museum of Acadiana for their annual fundraiser.

PRESS achieves this through the development, production, and presentation of undergraduate printmaking research; the encouragement of professional development by attending the Southern Graphics Council International (SGCI) Printmaking Conference; and fostering student growth by sponsoring and collaborating with the Department of Visual arts Marais Press visiting artist program.
