Welcome to the College of the Arts! |
The
College of the Arts at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is the locus
of all the arts ... performing, visual and design. It is unique in Louisiana
schools in this respect and its four departments, the Department of Performing
Arts, the Department of Visual Arts, the School of Music
and the School of Architecture and Design, offering a wide
range of degrees and concentrations which attract students who possess creative
and artistic abilities.
The School of Architecture and Design includes the professional degree programs of Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Interior Design and Bachelor of Industrial Design. The architecture program is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board. The interior design program is accredited by the Foundation of Interior Design Education Research. As the new program in product or industrial design develops we expect to achieve accreditation from its national organization also. The School of Music offers all the traditional programs in music including both marching and concert bands, orchestra, instrumental, vocal programs and ensembles, as well as advanced music media. Degrees include the Bachelor of Music, the Bachelor of Music Education, and the Master of Music. All of the programs are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. The Department of Visual Arts includes all of the traditional fine art programs such as painting, sculpture, drawing and printmaking, and also outstanding concentrations in advertising design, metalwork and jewelry, photography, ceramics, film/video media, computer art and animation. The degree offered in these areas is the professional degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts. The Department of Performing Arts awards the Bachelor of Fine Arts in performing arts with concentrations in Theatre and Dance. The department presents a full season of dance and theatre productions annually. The College of the
Arts' Visual Resource Center concentrates
all instructional materials into one facility. Included in this center
are projectors, monitors, more than 100,000 slides for classroom instruction,
as well as equipment for computer art, computer aided design, digital
image processing computer animation and computer video editing. The facility
is both a teaching laboratory as well as an open lab for all students
and is helping to meet the goal of integrating computer technology with
all programs in the College.
