Christopher Bennett, Assistant Professor of Art History in UL’s Department of Visual Arts, published an essay on the Italian Pop artist Mario Schifano. Titled "A Painter's Leeway: Mario Schifano's 'Break' with the Sonnabend Gallery and the Anemic Landscapes of 1964-66" and first read at an international conference at the American Academy in Rome and the UL “Pulse” lecture series co-founded by Dr. Bennett, the essay is now available in hardback in the peer-reviewed edited volume Breaking with Convention in Italian Art (edited by Dr. Julia Fischer, Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2017).  The essay appeared alongside the work of other accomplished art historians working on Italian art and culture from the Ancient to Contemporary periods including J. Fischer, Laurel Taylor, Alexis R. Culotta, Tamara Smithers, Tiffanie P. Townsend, and Shannon N. Pritchard.

He also co-lead a workshop with Flora Anthony at the CAA (College Art Association) conference is Los Angeles on February 22, 2018, representing ULL as a member of the CAA National Diversity Practices Committee titled "The Disconnect Between Intention and Practice: Why Aren't Faculty Hiring Guides and Administrative Initiatives Creating Diverse Departments?" focused on the question, "How can we translate the desire to have diverse departments into reality?"
