School of Architecture and Design Annual Fashion Show

Top Stories

On March 20th, the SOAD mounted their 11th annual Fashion Show which showcased the projects of second semester freshmen architecture, interior design, and industrial design students. Students were asked to choose a rock and roll song, and through an iterative process, translate its meaning and power into a garment. Using items more likely to be found in a hardware store than a fabric shop, the intention and design challenge continues to be the translation of emotive and cultural content from one medium to another. For the last 3 years, the show has also included work from students in their first semester of first year; the DSGN 101 class created masks designed to accentuate aspects of their personalities.

Each year, auditions are held to choose which projects will be included in the show. Students must go through a rigorous process of critique and demonstrate garments of a high quality to participate. This year, the show included a record 77 students taking the runway at the Acadiana Center for the Arts.
