Department of Visual Arts Juried Alumni Exhibition

The College of the Arts would like to invite all Department of Visual Arts Alumni to submit work to be juried for an alumni exhibition this coming Fall. The exhibition will take place in the Fletcher Hall Gallery located on the 2nd Floor of Fletcher Hall. Eligible alumni must have graduated from the Department of Visual Arts. The exhibition is open to all media and disciplines.

Entry Deadline: June 15, 2018

Submission Guidelines

Submissions are due by June 15, 2018. There is no entry fee. The juror for the Alumni Exhibition will be Dr. Christopher Bennett, Assistant Professor of Art History at UL Lafayette. All forms of media will be considered, but artworks must be recent works made in the past three years, installation-ready (with installation instructions where necessary), safe for visitors, and no larger than 72” in any direction. Selected artists will be notified by July 5, 2018. Shipping and delivery is the responsibility of the artist.  Each artist selected will be required to fill out a loan agreement form.     • Each artist may submit up to three works for consideration. All works must be submitted as a jpeg, in the following format to include artist’s last name and entry# (example: Degas_Entry#1).
    • Please fill out the online application with corresponding contact information and entry information that includes the title, medium, dimensions (H x W x D) and year of each work submitted.
    • Artist must also submit their most recent Artist Statement and CV.
    • Each submitted image and document should not exceed 25 MB. Larger video and animation pieces may provide a link.


If selected, all works must be hand-delivered or shipped and received by August 3rd, 2018 to the following address:

About the Juror

Christopher Bennett, Ph.D., FAAR ’06, is a writer and teacher of Art History and Assistant Professor at UL Lafayette. His studies principally focus on European, American, and Global art since 1945 including, especially, the artists associated with Italian “Arte Povera” group and postwar Italy; new research and teaching looks into trajectories in American art over the last six- to seven decades including art and the Civil Rights Movement, Minimalism and its legacy and later retentions/transformations, the situation of women in the arts, recent art in China, and critical deployments of new media. Professor Bennett has published writings in October, Artforum, and Art Journal. He has also been involved in curating and writing material for art exhibitions, both more local and international, including co-curating a full-scale exhibition of the work of Alighiero Boetti at the UCLA Fowler Museum in Los Angeles in 2012 and offering essays for exhibitions of Pino Pascali and Marisa Merz in London and Rome respectively. He has received prestigious fellowships from the American Academy in Rome, the Getty Research Institute, and the Lemmermann Foundation. Recently, he presented research at two international conferences at the Center for Italian Modern Art (CIMA) in New York and the American Academy in Rome; he is now seeing a number of articles through to publication and continuing work on a larger book project on Arte Povera.

Dr. Bennett holds a MA and Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Michigan and B.A. in Art History/Art from the University of Georgia.
