John Hathorn, Professor of Painting, Department of Visual Arts

Professor John Hathorn will be retiring from the University after 37 years of service.

John, received a BA in Art and M.Ed. in Special Education from the University of Mississippi (1975/1978) and a MFA in painting from Florida State University (1982). He joined our Department of Visual Arts shortly thereafter. During his 37-years at the university, John has served as Head of the Department of Visual Arts, coordinator of the department’s B.F.A. Senior Seminar course for many years and also taught courses in painting, drawing, design, Art History, Art Education, as well as within the University’s Study Aboard Italy, Paris, and London programs from 1990-2010.

The University recognized John with two of the highest award given for excellence in research, scholarship, commitment to and effectiveness in teaching, and significant contributions to campus life and the community - the University Distinguished Professor Award (2008) and the Ray P. Authement Excellence in Teaching Award (2013).

John has also been named a Visual Arts Fellow through the Louisiana Division of the Arts (2001) and has received grants supporting his research and teaching from both the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. John’s paintings have been exhibited in numerous museum and gallery exhibitions throughout the United States and are represented in collections across the United States.

 

Dr. Mary Reichling, Professor of Music Education

Dr. Mary Reichling is Professor of Music and Coordinator for Music Education at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She received her Masters and Doctorate from Indiana University. Dr. Reichling teaches courses in music methods at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, other classes in music education, supervises student teachers, and directs students in their research projects.

She also serves as National Chair of the Philosophy Research Group of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC) and is on the editorial board of the journal Philosophy of Music Education Review. Prof. Reichling has given papers at many conferences and is published in several scholarly journals.
