Dean's Student Message

Dear students,  I hope that your spring semester is going well and you are achieving the goal you set for yourself.  As I scan the articles for this eNews I am impressed with their number and quality.  Thank you for everything you do.  If you are involved in a student organization, and I hope you are, then I look forward to reading more articles about your accomplishments in future eNewsletters!

The Festival of the Arts was one of the best and continues to grow.  Thanks to all you contributed especially Curator Michael Eble and Associate Dean Michael McClure for setting up the events especially the ArTech Fusion program.  That is becoming stronger and stronger as we continue to grow it.  It’s been hard because until you see it you might not “get” it!  Anyway, I thought it was fantastic.  Nick Spitzer, our NPR host of the radio program American Routes was honored for the SPARK Lifetime Achievement Award.  He was totally enthralled.  Thank you Dr. Mark DeWitt for hosting him and giving us and our students the opportunity to hear him in a couple of different ways.

We are indebted to our President and the rest of the administration for working with the State on the budget woes.  We were spared heavy cuts this spring.  Hopefully, something will be resolved to close the funding gap next academic year.  That will take some action from the legislature during a special session that is probably going to begin in June.  I know you who are receiving TOPS scholarships are watching closely how the legislators handle this crisis.  Be be assured that the University administration is working tirelessly on your behalf to solve this crisis.

Meanwhile, continue to strive to do your best and you will be rewarded with the satisfaction that you will become better professionals, citizens and leaders in the future.

All the best,  Dean Brooks
