Stephen Sondheim is one of the great innovators of the American Musical Theatre.  His classical training in composition as well as his uncanny talent for lyric writing made him a huge force behind quality Musical Theatre from the 1960’s to the present. Now celebrating his 86th birthday, the UL Lafayette Opera Theatre has chosen to honor this monumental giant of the Broadway world.  The musical revue entitled, You’re gonna love tomorrow, showcases the brilliance of Sondheim’s output as well as gives our students a chance to learn and study these compositions and delve into emotionally charged material.  Shows represented are A funny thing happened on the way to the Forum, Anyone can whistle, Saturday Night, A little night music, Merrily we roll along, Sweeney Todd, Company, Assassins, and his Pulitzer Prize winning musical, Sunday in the Park with George.

The show is accompanied by a five-piece band of music students led by UL Lafayette adjunct professor David Boudreaux.  The cast consists of nine students and one alumni of the School of Music.  Current student Miguel Ochoa is serving as choreographer.  The show is being directed by Shawn Roy, director of Opera and Musical Theatre at UL Lafayette. Come and help us celebrate this prolific composer’s work and enjoy an evening of wonderful Musical Theatre.
