Choir Program Performs for International and State Organizations
Thu, 12/01/2016 - 12:27pmThe Chamber Singers, Chorale, and Ragin' Cajun Women's Choir performed new music by women composers in the International Alliance for Women in Music's Annual Concert, which was hosted on our campus on October 22nd. Prizewinning scores were performed by the Chamber Singers to an almost-capacity crowd of over 750 audience members, prospective and current students. Visiting composers Sivan Eldar, Tawnie Olson, Kari Medina, and Leslee Wood worked with the students during the dress rehearsal for the concert. The Chamber Singers were invited to perform at the state conference for the American Choral Director's Association. The group received a standing ovation from high school and University choral directors for their performance at the stunning Immaculate Conception Church in New Orleans for a program which they shared with the top choir from the University of Southern Mississippi.
All three UL Choirs will collaborate with the UL Symphony on November 30th at 6:30pm to present the annual School of Music Christmas Concert. The event is free to attend, and will feature seasonal masterworks by Bach, Vaughan Williams, and Elgar.
