UL Lafayette Dance Majors in first rehearsal for Jose Limón’s A Choreographic OfferingThe Limón Dance Company is celebrating its 75th anniversary this season. As part of the celebration, the UL Lafayette Dance Program is proud to announce that our students and alumni will be performing one of Limón’s masterworks, A Choreographic Offering, set by Alex McBride (former Limón company member and current UL-Lafayette adjunct instructor). The piece is set to music by J.S. Bach and was created in celebration of modern dance pioneer Doris Humphrey, Limón’s teacher and mentor. The masterwork will be performed during the 2021 production of State of LA Danse: NOVEMBER 18–21

The Dance Program is also fortunate to announce 4 additional guest choreographers for State of LA Danse, Kristi Carr (UL-Lafayette Alumna, current UL-Lafayette adjunct instructor), Matthew Couvillon (Outstanding College Of the Arts Graduate 2008, professional choreographer and dancer NYC), Sarah Lass, MFA Smith College (UL-Lafayette visiting Assistant Professor), and Melana Lloyd, MFA NYU (current director of Dance at Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy and Lafayette native). The offerings from these gifted and diverse choreographers, and performers will surely contribute to the long-standing tradition of choreographic and artistic excellence that State of LA Danse began in 1991.
