Tancill's Sazerac Swingers, Burly Girls, and Berlin Burlesque Festival
Wed, 03/02/2022 - 10:12amUL Visual Arts professor James Tancill has spent the last two years directing and animating a live action music video for the song “Burly Girls” by the Sazerac Swingers jazz band. His process began in Gütersloh, Wiedenbrück, and Berlin, Germany. Filming and production started in December 2021 in Berlin, where the Sazerac Swingers was shot in several locations across the city. Aside from directing and animating, James will supervise a team of UL student animators and video editors for an internship in the summer of 2022 to assist in the production. The video is scheduled to be released in October 2022.
The Sazerac Swingers come to visit the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in late April or early May of 2022. The band will be hosting workshops at the University and performing locally.
A Live animation and projection performance will also take place at the Wintergarten in Berlin Germany for the 10th anniversary of the Berlin Burlesque Festival. Performers include Marlene Von Steenvag and the Sazerac Swingers. This endeavor has been partially funded by a cultural grant from the city of Gütersloh, Germany, a SPARK Grant from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and private funding.
