College of the Arts to host Fall 2024 Juried Alumni Art Exhibition

JURIED ALUMNI ART EXHIBITION

As part of the College of the Arts at UL Lafayette's 30th Anniversary programming, we have organized a special Alumni Exhibition for fall 2024. Alumni are invited to submit artwork to be considered for the juried exhibition. We are thrilled to announce that Bradley Sumrall, Curator of the Collection for the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans, will be the exhibition juror. The exhibition will be held in the Fletcher Hall Gallery. The exhibition is open to  all UL Lafayette Alumni regardless of your graduating major.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

All submissions will be accepted through the Artcall website listed above. Submissions are due by August 18, 2024. There is $25 entry fee for up to 3 entries. All forms of media will be considered, installation-ready (with installation instructions where necessary), safe for visitors, and no larger than 72” in any direction. Selected artists will be notified by August 23, 2024. Shipping and delivery is the responsibility of the artist.  Each artist selected will be required to fill out a loan agreement form. NOTIFICATIONS

Selected artists will be notified via email by no later than August 23rd. Artists whose work is selected for the exhibition will receive instructions regarding delivery of their artwork. All works must be hand-delivered or shipped and received by September 5, 2024 to the following address:

• September 9: Exhibition opens.
• November 8: Homecoming week closing reception Friday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM
• November 12 - 15: Pick up of works

ABOUT THE JUROR

Bradley Sumrall is Curator of the Collection for the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, where he is involved in building, researching, and interpreting the nation’s most comprehensive collection of art of the American South. A native of Mississippi, he currently lives in the Historic Faubourg Tremé of New Orleans.  He has written extensively on the art and culture of the American South, and has served as curator for over seventy museum exhibitions, including The Whole Drum Will Sound: Women in Southern Abstraction, Michael Meads: Bent not Broken, Well Suited: The Costumes of Alonzo Wilson, The Created World of Enrique Alferez, From Terra to Verde: The Art of Sharon Kopriva, Benny Andrews: Paintings and Entwined: Ritual Wrapping and Binding in Contemporary Southern Art. His exhibitions have been reviewed in Art in America, Art Forum, Hyperallergic, Terremoto Magazine and Art & Antiques among other online and print publications. His books include One World, Two Artists: John Alexander and Walter Anderson, From Terra to Verde: The Art of Sharon Kopriva, Michel Varisco: Shifting, and Clementine Hunter: A Sketchbook. His writings have been included in several museum publications including: Southern Accent from the Speed Museum of Art, Spiritual Journeys from the Hilliard Museum and Found: Vernacular Art and Gee’s Bend Quilts at the Gadsden Museum.
