College of the Arts screens "In a Good Place Now"

The College of the Arts hosted the world premier In a Good Place Now, a feature-length documentary exploring the life and music of Bobby Charles, the singer/songwriter from Abbeville, Louisiana who rose to fame in the 1950s with such hits as “See You Later Alligator”, “Walking to New Orleans” and “But I Do” through his appearance in “The Last Waltz” and then his self-imposed exile to his small town. Produced by the Bobby Charles Trust, LLC, and Directed by David Dubos.of the Bobby Charles Documentary.

Charles Sonnier of Abbeville La, used the screening as an opportunity to announce his establishment of the: Bobby Charles/BORSF Endowed Professorship in Music Business

Mr. Sonnier is a longtime supporter of the university. He has served as the President and a member of the UL Foundation Board of Trustees for over 30 years. His dedication to the University is demonstrated by his substantial gifts in the form of an endowed first-generation scholarship in music and an endowed facility fund in music business in honor of Bobby Charles.

The Fund is intended to support the UL Lafayette Music Business Program. Mr Sonnier has allowed us to be flexible and award it more broadly to faculty members teaching in the Bachelor of Arts degree programs, which could include those with interdisciplinary teaching loads in Recording Arts and Music Business.
