College of the Arts Advisory Board Member and alum, Emmanual Boo Milton '17 has recently been named as a fellow for National League of Cities Justice Initiatives.

Milton will be using my experience in community and youth engagement to support the work NLC is doing in cities to build capacity and create sustainable impact. He is super grateful to be working with a team making changes on how we address gun violence and incarceration across the United States.

Emanuel “Boo” Milton is a community organizer and creative who electrifies spaces with energy and ideas to promote positivity, equity, unity and innovation. He is widely known as media personality “Boo Milton,” from having had his own #1 ranking radio show in the Baton Rouge market. Emanuel now uses his voice and media presence to make a positive impact in communities by mentoring, advocating for youth in local government, assisting brands with creating and launching initiatives, and creating innovative community events. His most recent and notable creation is Spark Box is an activity kit for children that focus on social emotional development helping them navigate through social-awareness, self-awareness, and critical thinking through creativity. Within a few weeks of its launch, Spark Box gained national traction being seen on TV’s across the country from featuring on LIVE with Kelly and Ryan. Over 2,000 Spark Boxes have been distributed to children in need through the COVID-19 pandemic. Coming from an urban area Emanuel’s heart is in creating healthier communities he currently serves on the Advisory Board for Cities United, steering national conversations around violence reduction among young black males through youth adult partnerships and youth voice. Emanuel also captivates stages as an event host, emceeing various events from high school and collegiate pep rallies to concerts with thousands of energized fans. Emanuel’s ideas and initiatives have been highlighted across the world featuring on platforms for The Obama Foundation, ISTE, Facebook Education, America’s Promise and more.

The National League of Cities (NLC) is an organization comprised of city, town and village leaders that are focused on improving the quality of life for their current and future constituents. With nearly 100 years of dedication to the strength and advancement of local governments, NLC has gained the trust and support of more than 2,700 cities across the nation. 

Boo Milton will be in the Washington D.C. area often during his fellowship and he would love to connect with alums who focus on community engagement, youth engagement, public safety, education, and the arts.
