BJ Smith and Kim Smith to Present Lecture on the tranformative power of Art in Healing at UL Lafayette College of the Arts

Lafayette, LA – The University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s College of the Arts is honored to welcome artist and traumatic brain injury (TBI) survivor BJ Smith and his mother, Kim Smith, for an inspiring lecture on the transformative power of art in healing. The event will take place on March 31st at noon in Fletcher Hall, Room 134.

A reception will follow the lecture in the Dean’s Gallery on the 2nd Floor of Fletcher Hall, where BJ’s artwork is on exhibition.

BJ Smith’s journey as an artist and TBI survivor is a testament to resilience, creativity, and the profound connection between art and recovery. Alongside his mother, Kim, he will share his personal story, offering insight into the challenges of living with a TBI and the ways in which artistic expression has played a vital role in his healing process.

The lecture, presented in partnership with BrainArt Alliance, aims to educate students, faculty, and the broader community about the intersection of art, health, and personal transformation. It will provide a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on overcoming adversity through creativity and the importance of art as a therapeutic tool.
