Allison Leigh (Assistant Professor of Art History) presented at two conferences in the first half of the fall semester. The first, the 34th World Congress of Art History (CIHA), was held in Beijing, China from September 15-22, 2016. Often referred to as the “Olympics of Art History,” this conference brought Dr. Leigh to China to present her research on early 18th-century portraits by Russian artists, especially those made during the time of Tsar Peter the Great. The organization has decided to publish an anthology of the conference proceedings entitled 'Terms: Proceedings of the 34th World Congress of Art History' (edited by Zhu Qingsheng) and Dr. Leigh’s article “Russian Occidentalism: The Hybrid Self in Eighteenth-Century Russian Portraiture” will appear in this collection in September of 2017.

Dr. Leigh also spoke at the Southeastern College Art Conference (SECAC) held in Roanoke, Virginia from October 19-22. She presented her research on the development of new methodological approaches to the study of art and its history in a talk entitled “Synartesis: The Trans-Historical Method in Art History.” Her presentation was recorded by representatives from Thames & Hudson publishers due to the insights it provided into thematic pedagogical methods within art history.

Dr. Leigh also had a review of the anthology 'From Realism to the Silver Age: New Studies in Russian Artistic Culture' (edited by Rosalind Blakesley and Margaret Samu, Northern Illinois University Press) published by H-Net Reviews in September. The e-edition of this review can be found at http://www.h-net.org/reviews/showrev.php?id=46849
