Q: A Tragedy by Dayana Stetco, Directed by Shannon R. Miller

This fall, the Department of Performing Arts presented ‘Q:  A Tragedy’.  The production was written by UL Lafayette Professor of English, Diana Stetco and Directed by Assistant Professor of Theatre, Shannon R. Miller.  Assistant Professor Miller offered these thoughts about the production and performance:

The goal was to build an interdisciplinary bridge between the PFAR Theatre program and the Department of English where PhD candidates studying Creative writing, drama, and literary theory are developing new works under Department Head, Dr. Dayana Stetco. We also wanted to take the opportunity to explore a new production processes from the first audition to the post production meeting and try new marketing strategies. We were able to support a new work, rehearse around a study friendly schedule, and reach more patrons with fewer performances. The results include better mid-term grades, less injury and illness, a sold out opening night performance, and our box office sold more tickets to more patrons than any previously recorded main stage production. But the real success of the production has been all the discussion about symbolism and meaning. Surrealist Metadrama is not your typical night of theatre.

“I watched the show Sunday afternoon and wanted to extend major congratulations! I enjoyed the show immensely! Bravo to all involved for taking a leap of faith on an original piece, a new collaboration and exploring/investigating a new style/genre for and with our students. Q was something very different from what we've produced in the past, and I think it was a great exploration and learning laboratory for our students. I particularly loved the lighting and sound and of course, costumes, and am so incredibly proud of our very technical/lead student, Lucas Guilbeau for stepping outside of his comfort zone and taking on the role of Keene! He'll remember and draw from this experience through the rest of his life. Again, congrats and bravo to all!
Camille Bulliard, Coordinator of Theatre

I believe all involved will remember and draw from this experience through the rest of our lives. It has been my pleasure to serve our program, the students, and our artistic community here at UL Lafayette.
