The UL Lafayette Department of Visual Arts welcomes alum Lauren Duffy, Professor of Ceramics at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. Lauren Duffy received a BFA from the University of Louisiana Lafayette and a MFA from Indiana University. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at Northland College on Lake Superior in Ashland Wisconsin. Lauren makes pieces based on our relationships to food. She also has a socially engaged, community driven art practice involving creating collaborative, multi-media portraits of individuals and the groups of which they are a part. It is a type of radical redefinition of self and group through distributed authorship of portraits based on words and passions rather than appearance.

Lauren was named the SPARK Young Alumni Award honoree in 2020. The award honors alumni of the College of the Arts who have achieved great success in their first 10 years after graduation. The honorees are recognized for achievement in their creative filed and their inspiration as role models for future alumni.

Duffy will be giving an Artist talk at 10:00 am in Joel Fletcher Hall room 316 (ceramics) and conducting a workshop for students at 1:00 pm in Joel Fletcher Hall room 316 (ceramics), along with a gallery reception for, "Hanging Weight & Portraits of a Place" in the Dean's Gallery in Fletcher Hall Wednesday, November 10th from 3:30 to 5pm.
