McBride presents EROSION: landscape reveals us at Basin Arts

Alex McBride, Assistant Professor of Dance at UL Lafayette, is currently serving as a resident artist for the Basin Arts Project Space Residency this June. Alex McBride's project, EROSION: landscape reveals us, will conclude with a final gallery viewing and culminating dance performance on June 21st at 7:00 pm. Tickets are available HERE

EROSION: landscape reveals us is an alternative performance + research encapsulation that explores and investigates the connective tissue between the human body and the land body. Through this research, I provoke the viewer's thoughts about erosion in their own lives. We are all connected to a land that is eroding. We are all resisting gravity together, pushing against the same Earth-body supporting us. The performance is proposed as an open-ended thought: what is eroding in my life?

Our bodies tell the stories of the land.

Land tells the stories of our bodies.

Alex McBride is originally from Lafayette, Louisiana. He received his BFA in Dance from The University of Arizona in Tucson and his MFA in Dance from Hollins University. Alex has danced and trained with San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, 10 Hairy Legs (NYC), The Limón Dance Company (NYC), and Basin Dance Collective (Lafayette). Alex is a highly sought-after performer and teacher. He has studied, performed, and taught across North America, Central America, and Europe. Most recently, he was nominated for a BESSIE award for his role in Adam Weinert's reconstruction, MONUMENTS: Echoes in the Dance Archives, which was staged at the New York Public Library. Alex is on the faculty at Perry-Mansfield in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Alex is currently an Assistant Professor of Dance at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Prior to returning to his hometown, he was an Assistant Professor of Dance at Northwestern State University. Alongside his performance and teaching endeavors, Alex’s choreography and research are currently exploring the intersection of dance with geography and place.

Alex's dance performance will kick off the Summer of Dance series presented by Basin Arts and the Acadiana Center for the Arts. The series will feature four new live dance performances created by local choreographers, with a new work premiering each month from June through September. EROSION: landscape reveals us will be the only performance occurring at Basin Arts, 113 Clinton Street. All other performances will take place at the Acadiana Center for the Arts.

The Project Space Residency is supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council, as administered by the Acadiana Center for the Arts. Additional funding has been provided by the National Endowment for the Arts.

Join Alex McBride and the Basin Arts community for the final gallery viewing and culminating dance performance of EROSION: landscape reveals us, which is an alternative performance and research encapsulation that explores the connection between the human body and the landscape.
