This summer, UL Lafayette Professor Carl Granieri, Coordinator of the UL Lafayette Theatre Program, along with Professor Marty Aikens, Head of Tech and Design, launched a new School of Performing Arts training initiative, the PFAR ROME Program. This program  provided students with the chance to collaborate with artists from around the globe.

Two professors and eight students left for Rome, Italy on June 1st. For two months, theatre students lived and worked in the Eternal City, gaining practical, on-the-job training as they bring the production, PETER AND THE STARCATCHER to life. Presented for the first time Italy, in collaboration with The English Theatre of Rome, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's Performing Arts Unit opens PETER AND THE STARCATCHER at Teatro Arciliuto.

With the support of the School of Music and Performing Arts, the UL Office of Student Research, and the Acadiana Center for the Arts in Lafayette, some UL Lafayette students worked and trained under Professor Marty Aikens, who designed sets and lighting for the production. Others also worked with Professor Carl Granieri, who directed the production.

PETER AND THE STARCATCHER is a five-time Tony Award-winning play and will be performed as a co-production with The English Theatre of Rome. The play will run at Teatro Archiliuto from June 20 - 29.

Based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, PETER AND THE STARCATCHER upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan becomes The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up in this wildly theatrical adaptation written by Rick Elice, with music by Wayne Barker. From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, the play explores the depths of human greed and despair, as well as the bonds of friendship, duty, and love.
