This past spring, through funding provided by the Office for Advance Student Research a total of 33 Graphic Design students from the Department of Visual Arts participated in the American Advertising Federation’s design competition. Submitting a total of 99 entries, our students won 16 awards (four gold, and 12 silver); the most in program history. Additionally, all 33 students were further able to also submit their work to a much larger national competition—the National Student Show and Conference in Dallas, Texas—as well. Of the 44 entries submitted to this competition four student works were selected to go on display at the conference, and one student won a $500 prize for Best Art Direction. This again was a first in the program’s history. Graphic Design Professors Jeff Lush and Kevin Hagan are very proud of their students for all the hard work they put in and what they accomplished. They are hopeful that this success will continue to motivate the students in showcasing their work in order to build their professional connections and provide possible future job opportunities.
