Lafayette, LA – The University of Louisiana at Lafayette College of the Arts culminated its yearlong 30th Anniversary Celebration with a lecture and performance, featuring acclaimed jazz percussionist Jaimeo Brown and his ensemble, Transcendence, which includes Grammy-winning guitarist Chris Sholar. On April 9, the internationally recognized and award-winning talents of Jaimeo Brown and Transcendence will perform alongside College of the Arts performance and visual artists. Our guest of honor will be UL Lafayette alumni, pioneering musician, and innovative visual artist Richard “Dickie” Landry. The day will culminate our celebratory year with this lecture and performance in Fletcher Hall 134, marking the conclusion of our milestone year.
Jaimeo Brown: Transcendence is known for its fusion of jazz, blues, hip-hop, and electronic music, incorporating historical field recordings into contemporary soundscapes. Their critically acclaimed work, including albums such as Work Songs, explores themes of resilience, labor, and cultural heritage. Brown’s unique artistic vision has captivated audiences worldwide, making him a fitting guest for this milestone celebration.
Chris Sholar, a Grammy-winning producer and guitarist, has worked with legends such as Stevie Wonder, Kanye West, Beyoncé, and Whitney Houston. Together, they create a powerful and innovative sound that bridges the past and future of jazz.
This event marks three decades of artistic excellence within the College of the Arts, reflecting on its legacy while embracing the future of creative expression. Attendees will experience an inspiring evening of thought-provoking discussion and powerful live music, highlighting the transformative impact of the arts.
